Paper web strip cutter - has recess to form a tunnel for paper to pass through for cutting

Appts. to cut a narrow strip from a paper web at a papermaking machine, pref. at the drying section, uses a cutter with a recess on the side towards the paper web which forms a tunnel together with the paper web along the direction of travel. A cutter is in the tunnel, at its walls. Pref. the cutting unit is a roller with its axis at right angles to the paper web and at right angles to the direction of paper travel. The roller rotates. Air is blown through the tunnel, in the direction of paper travel, from the opposite side of the paperweb to the cutter to give additional pressure on the paper against the cutter. The paper web travels freely and without support at the cutting zone, or it can be supported by drying fourdrinier. ADVANTAGE - The appts. gives an effective cutting action, without a complex air stream, as the tunnel formation develops a suction action on the paper to draw it in for a stable cutting action without tears.
