The light unit, partic. for flush-fitting in a ceiling, allows a grille inserted in its housing to be swung down on a metal bracket. The latter slides between an upper position in which it locks and a lower one to allow grille hinging or removal. The bracket (26) is accommodated in a compression-spring member (33) fixed in the metal housing (11), and in which it is movable up and down. The member has an opening (40) through which the bracket passes. while a portion (39) of it forms a spring contact pressing against the bracket. In the bottom position a holding lug (31) on the bracket rests on a supporting face (43) on the member, but the bracket can be released manually from the latter to allow grille removal. It is electrically connected to the grille, so that the latter is connected via bracket and spring member to the housing for the purposes of electrical safety.
