The invention concerns a method of rinsing metal surfaces which have previously been cleaned and degreased with an aqueous cleaning fluid. The rinse water is recycled after ion separation and removal of other substances using activated charcoal. In a particularly simple and universally applicable embodiment of the method proposed, the used rinse water is first treated with activated charcoal and only then passed through an ion-exchange column.
