Optical and/or electrical cable filler material is in the form of a gel with a definite drop pt. comprising (i) 80-98 pts.wt. low mol. wt. polyisobutylene or oil; (ii) 2-20 pts.wt. of one or more high melting polyolefins with a crystalline fraction; and (iii) 0.2-2 pts.wt. ethylene-propylene rubber. Polyolefin (ii) is pref. polyethylene, polypropylene or polymethylpentene, the esp. pref. polyethylene being one with below 5% comonomer content. Rubber (iii) is pref. of high mol. wt. with an ethylene content of 70% or higher. USE/ADVANTAGE - The filler is esp. for use in sealing optical hollow or bundled cables. The presence of rubber (iii) gives a compsn. which retains its consistency over a wide temp. range down to -40 deg.C and gives good mechanical protection-
