The invention relates to a motor vehicle. This vehicle is characterised in that it comprises a dashboard (26), a steering control means (28) distant from the said dashboard (26), the latter comprising a compartment (32) which is closed by at least one flap (34) and in which there is arranged a protection bag (airbag) (36) made from a flexible material which is at least partially gas tight, the vehicle further comprising a source of gas (38), means (40) for connecting the bag (36) to the source of gas (38) and means (44) for automatically triggering the source of gas (38) in response to an abnormal behaviour of the vehicle, in that the bag (36) may assume a first folded state in which it is totally housed in the compartment (32) and a second inflated state in which it extends out of the compartment (32) and in that the bag comprises a central part (46) which is arranged so that in the inflated state it extends over substantially the entire spread of the dashboard (26). <IMAGE>
