PURPOSE:To provide a porous polymer membrane capable of separating virus, etc., and showing an environmental responsing function by making irradiation injuries on a polymer membrane containing a specified component by application of charged particles thereto and subsequently applying chemical etching thereto. CONSTITUTION:To a polymer membrane obtained by polymerization of a component (suitably methacryloyl-L-alaninemethyl ester, etc.) containing one or more kinds of (alpha-amino acids (oligomer) as the side chain groups and another arbitrary polymerizable monomer or to a polymer membrane obtained by chemically introducing the above-mentioned component to a polymer membrane sold on the market, charged particles are applied to make irradiation injuries. The above-treated membrane is subsequently subjected to etching treatment preferably with an oxidative solution (e.g. potassium permanganate) after irradiation preferably with ionizing radiations or ultraviolet rays or while being irradiated therewith, thus producing the objective porous polymer membrane containing cylindrical pores having <=10mum average pore size. The above-mentioned polymer membrane can freely control the pore size corresponding to a stimulation from the environment and can distinguish substances. |
