PURPOSE:To provide the color liquid crystal display which can enhance the resolution of a black and white character display of character information, etc. CONSTITUTION:This liquid crystal display consists of a pair of substrates 3a, 3b, a liquid crystal layer 4 crimped between these substrates, a common electrode 5 formed on the one substrate of the above-mentioned substrates, picture element electrodes 6 which are formed on the other substrate of the above- mentioned substrates and are arranged in a matrix form, and a filter layer provided in correspondence to the common electrode 5 or the picture element electrodes 6. This filter layer is constituted of >=2 kinds of color filter parts 10 and transparent filter parts 11 exhibiting respectively different spectral transmission characteristics. The color image display is executed in the parts corresponding to the color filter parts 10 and the black and white display is executed in the parts corresponding to the transparent filter parts 11. |
