The invention relates to an apparatus for detecting a residual liquid (2), intended to detect whether liquid remains at the bottom (11) of a translucent bottle (1). This apparatus includes a light source (3) for projecting, onto the bottom of the bottle, a light containing visible light and infrared rays, two photoelectric conversion detectors (61, 62) for receiving the light which has passed through the bottom of the bottle from the light source; an optical filter (7) which allows only the infrared rays to pass, placed in front of the light-reception surface of one (62) of the detectors; and means (9, 10) for comparing outputs of the two detectors and for delivering a signal when a difference between the outputs exceeds the predetermined value. <IMAGE>
