Command units (1-N) for the axes of groups of machine tools are controlled by data and synchronisation bus circuits (6,7). The input to the bus circuits consists of programming equipment (1), an organisation module (2) and a clock (3). Each command unit contains a memory which stores details of the lengths and speeds of each stage of the machining schedule. The incoming clock signal is counted and compared with the time periods allocated to each of the memory positions. The result is used to update a position machine and a position programme which controls the machine tool. ADVANTAGE - Operation of group of machine tools is synchronised and coordinated and is easily integrated into computer controlled production system.
