In this big top the canvas contains, on the one hand, an inextensible peripheral cable and, on the other hand, inextensible cables (5) each one extending from the pole or one pole up to near a corner (4) of the canvas, a support (17) being provided at each corner, at a height at least equal to that of the edge of the canvas in the erected position of the big top, which support is equipped with a winch (18) for fastening the end of a cable (5) extending up to a pole and for tensioning this cable.
