A method for production of zinc dithiophosphates, characterised in that O,O'-diesters of dithiophosphoric acid of acid value from 1.0 to 6.0 milliequivalent/gram, obtained based on primary or secondary alcohols of 2 to 14, preferably 3 to 12, carbons in an alkoxyl group, are neutralized with an excess of tin oxide in the presence of aliphatic monocarboxyl acids of 1 to 12, preferably 1 to 9 carbons in alkyl group, at molar ratios of O,O'-diesters of dithiophosphoric acids to tin oxide from 2.0 : 1.05 to 2.0 : 1.5 and including aliphatic monocarboxyl acids at the amount of 0.01 to 10.0 mmoles/mole, preferably 0.05 mmoles/mole of the used O,O'-diester of dithiophosphoric acid in a temperature of 40 to 100 degrees C, preferably 50 to 85 degrees C and then the product is dried in a temperature of up to 150 degrees C, preferably 115 degrees C at a pressure of 0.5 kPa to 13.0 kPa and filtered using a filtration aid, preferably after prior contacting with active carbon.
