The appts. has a main surface (10) with an indicator (14) which is movable relative to it. The main surface represents a complete time cycle, e.g. a day, and the indicator is superimposed on it. The indicator maybe brighter than, or a different colour to the main surface, and shows the actual time. The indicator may be connected to a mechanical drive.
