Between flat continuous sheets, with at least one sheet formed of filter material, are held granules, pref of generally spherical shape with largest not exceeding smallest by over 2 mm. The granules are in a single layer and spaced apart by at least 50% of the mean grain size. Between the two flat sheets is also inserted a three-dimensional structure formed of corrugated or dimpled material, pref. based on polymer fibres, and in whose recesses the granules are held. The granule-anchorage structure may have its peaks bonded to the upper and/or lower main sheets.
