A top sheet provided with openings (6) and associated liquid-carrying capillary tubes (8) is designed to have a textile-like appearance and oblique openings (9) formed on the lower ends of the respective liquid-carrying capillary tubes. The upper openings (6) of this top sheet for an absorbent sanitary article have a plane configuration in each case formed by a combination of straight and curved lines, and in each case two adjacent, upper openings are separated from one another by a fine rib (10). The lower openings (9) have circumferential edges (9A) extending in an irregular wavy shape. A mould for the top sheet is provided with a plurality of openings which each represent an asymmetrical figure or a linearly symmetrical figure having a single axis of symmetry.
