Alkoxylated, unsatd. aldehydes and ketones of formula (I) or (IA) are prepd. by conversion of dialkoxytetrahydrofuran cpds. of formula (II) in which R2-R7 (same or different) = H, opt. branched 1-12C alkyl or alkylene, 5-8C cycloalkyl or cycloalkylene, or 6-16C aryl, alkylaryl, or aralkyl, with the proviso that at least one of R3-R6 = H, and R1 = alkyl or alkylene, in the presence of solid heterogeneous acid catalysts.
