Heat from the bed of fluidised fuel in a pressurised furnace is applied via associated heat exchange surfaces, possibly forming part of the furance wall to form steam circulating in a combined, water/steam circuit and which is applied to a steam turbine, operating at up to about 530 deg. C. Furnace combustion gases are at the same time applied to a second turbine. With the powdered fuel (coal) burning in close to stochiometric conditions, some of the partly expended steam is withdrawn from the water/steam circuit, to be replaced by a corresp. amt. of water and at pressure above the furnace pressure is injected directly into the furnace, to be heated to the max. temp. therein, e.g. 850 deg. C, and combine with the combustion fumes in operating the second turbine.
