A protecting cap (6) for the cylinder (1) of a disk brake has ring-shaped bellows (7), a securing bead (8) arranged at a first end of the bellows that engages an annular groove (9) in the piston (3) of the cylinder (1) and a stiffening insert shaped as a ring (11) that presses the second end of the bellows (7) against the inner wall (12) of a ring-shaped recess (5) in the front face (4) of the cylinder (1) and that is at least partially surrounded by the material of which the bellows (7) are made. The second end of the bellows (7) forms a ring-shaped pocket open on one side in which the ring (11) is inserted. Inside the pocket, the ring (11) has perforations (14) that are filled by the material of which the bellows (7) are made. A flange (13) of the ring (11) that radially projects out of the pocket forms a bearing surface for a mounting tool.
