Process for the preparation of polymers, wherein linear alternating polymers of carbon monoxide with one or more olefinically unsaturated compounds are prepared by contacting the monomers at elevated temperature and pressure with a catalyst containing a Group VIII metal, the polymer preparation being carried out as a gas phase polymerization, and water being present at the start of the polymerization. |
