The invention relates to an improved process for the preparation of monomeric and polymeric poly(O-alkylurethanes) of the diphenylmethane series by reacting the corresponding amines with dialkyl carbonates in the presence of a catalyst and isolating the products in high purity, as well as to the use of the products for preparing the corresponding isocyanates.
