<p>PURPOSE:To provide an air bag structure of an automobile which is capable of ensuring protection of occupants by quickly expanding and inflating a sideward impact-absorbing air bag in its longitudinal direction. CONSTITUTION:An auxiliary bag 13 having longitudinal size corresponding to that of an air bag 12 and being smaller in capacity as compared with the air bag 12 is provided within the air bag 12 and the exit 11 of an inflator 11 is provided within the auxiliary air bag 13 and so gas from the inflator 11 is injected into the auxiliary bag 13. The capacity of the auxiliary bag 13 being small, the auxiliary bag 13 is instantaneously expanded and inflated in its longitudinal direction and as a result expansion of the air bag 12 in its longitudinal direction is quickened. The air bag 12 is thus expanded by the auxiliary bag 13 by a certain degree and can then be quickly inflated in its longitudinal direction.</p> |
