PURPOSE:To produce an active carbon porous body having excellent adsorption performance in a short time by adding a specific lipophilic compound, a specified hydrophilic compound and specific powder having a high residual carbon content and water to a resol type phenolic resin, then carbonizing and activating the resultant cured polymer product. CONSTITUTION:To a 100 pts.wt. resol type phenolic resin, mix 1-100 pts.wt. lipophilic compound such as kerosene, naphtha, mineral spirit or a paraffin which has >=100 deg.C boiling point and is a liquid at ordinary temperature; 1-100 pts.wt. hydrophilic liquid compound such as an oxyalkylene compound or glycerol having >=100 deg.C boiling point, 1-100 pts.wt. powder having a low residual carbon content such as a polyolefin and/or water. Thereby, a cured polymer product is prepared and carbonized in a nonoxidizing atmosphere such as Ar to provide a carbon porous body, which is subsequently heated at 600-1200 deg.C temperature in a CO2 gas atmosphere, subjected to activation treatment and activated. Thereby, the objective active carbon porous body having a high density and many pores present therein is produced. |
