PURPOSE:To heighten the yield of indigo in the production thereof by the reaction of an indole derivative having no substituent at the 2- and 3-positions with an organic hydroperoxide. CONSTITUTION:An indole derivative having no substituent at the 2- and 3- positions is reacted with an organic hydroperoxicle using, as a catalyst, a compound of a metal selected from those of Groups IV, V, and VI of the periodic table in a reaction medium comprising a hydrocarbon solvent and a secondary or tertiary alcohol solvent in a weight ratio of 2.0 or less. |
