PURPOSE:To always perform the optimum correction of density irregularity corresponding to a recording mode by changing the correction mode of density irregularity between a case performing recording using all of the recording elements of a recording head and a case performing recording using a part of the recording elements thereof. CONSTITUTION:In an ink jet color copier, four color inks are emitted while four recording heads 34 corresponding to four color inks are moved in an X- direction along a guide shaft 35 and recording paper 32 is fed in a Y-direction to record an image on the entire surface of the recording head 34. For example, 128 emitting orifmces are provided to the emitting surface of each of the recording heads 34 and electrothermal converters are arranged corresponding to the respective emitting orifices and one pixel is formed by the ink emitted from the respective emitting orifices. In this case, when recording is performed using a part of many emitting orifices, a test pattern is recorded using only the emitting orifices concerned and the characteristics at the time of the formation of a pixel of the respective emitting orifices are corrected based on the test pattern. |
