PURPOSE:To obtain a weak acidic skin medicine for external use, having antimicrobial properties against bacteria on the skin and characterized in that an extract prepared by extraction from Hydrangeae serrata var. thunbergii is blended. CONSTITUTION:A skin medicine for external use such as a medicine, a quasi- drug or a cosmetic is obtained by blending an extract prepared by extracting a plant Hydrangeae serrata var. thunbergii of the family Saxifragaceae with an organic solvent and/or water. The antimicrobial activity of the resultant extract against normal bacteria on human skin is the best within a weak acidic region which is the pH on the skin. If the above-mentioned extract is blended in an amount of >=0.025wt.% expressed in terms of dried residue in the total amount of the skin medicine for the external use, antimicrobial activity against bacteria of the genus Staphylococcus is exhibited and the medicine is useful for prevention, prophylaxis or improvement in symptoms of dermatopathy closely related with the bacteria of the genus Staphylococcus such as atopic dermatisis or common acne. |
