PURPOSE:To provide an inexpensive thermal recording apparatus performing stable recording, improved in energy efficiency and having simple constitution. CONSTITUTION:An ink image 15 is recorded on an intermediate transfer medium 2 held to 70 deg.C by a thermal head 15 and subsequently transferred to recording paper 14 and an ink layer 5 and a top coat layer 6 are formed to a recording ink sheet 3 and the m.p. the material of the ink layer 5 is set to 68 deg.C lower than the heat holding temp. of the intermediate transfer medium 2 and the m.p of the material of the top coat layer 6 is set to 75 deg.C higher than the heat holding temp. of the intermediate transfer medium 2.
