NxN OPTICAL STAR COUPLER An efficient NXN star optical coupler suitable for mass production in integratecl form is disclosed. The coupler can be realized using silicon technology to form two arrays of strip waveguides and a dielectric slab all formed on a glass substrate. Power transfer between the two arrays is accomplished through radiation in the dielectric slab with theoretical efficiency exceeding 30% under optimized conditions. (FIG. 2) |
