PURPOSE:To provide a method wherein a sample can be heated under a high oxygen potential while preventing high-melting metals which are furnace constituent materials from deteriorating by their oxidation though there are problems in that the high-melting metals are deteriorated by oxidation if heated under the high oxygen potential in a heating furnace of a controlled atmosphere having an internal heating type high-melting metallic heater or a high-melting metallic container; however, sintering of the sample is not accelerated without increasing the oxidation potential. CONSTITUTION:This invention is characterized as follows: In a method for operating a heating furnace of a controlled atmosphere having an internal heating type high-melting metallic heater or a high-melting metallic container, heating is carried out while controlling the atmosphere in the furnace so as to provide its pressure below the equilibrium oxygen partial pressure under which the above-mentioned high-melting metal is oxidized. For example, the composition of the atmospheric gas is changed according to the temperature distribution in the furnace to control the atmosphere in the furnace so that the pressure of the atmosphere may always be below the equilibrium oxygen partial pressure under which the high-melting metal is oxidized. Furthermore, the high oxygen potential required to sinter the sample can be obtained near the sintering temperature of the sample. |
