PURPOSE:To test each part of an ATM multiplex transmission equipment by a measuring device of a conventional STM by providing the line corresponding part of an ATM cross connect processing part with a fixed cell generating mechanism which can set an ATM header of a variable VPI.VCI or the like in accordance with the designation. CONSTITUTION:When a test cell is generated from a line corresponding part 2a to perform the test, the test indication and the value of the VPI.VCI indicating a transmission line to be tested are inputted to a fixed cell generating part 3. ATM cells distributed and multiplexed by a cross connect part omitted in the figure are inputted to a buffer 4 and are successively read and outputted to an outgoing line. When the buffer 4 is empty, a switching part 5 switches a switch SW1 to output the cell set to the generating part 3 to the outgoing line. If a switch SW2 is preliminarily closed, this cell is turned back to the incoming line side and is inputted from a line corresponding part 2b. Thus, the cell outputted from the generating part 3 is transmitted by the designated route or error of its contents is detected to perform the test.
