CATION EXCHANGE RESIN, PRODUCTION THEREOF AND SEPARATION OF ORGANIC ACID USING THE RESIN

PURPOSE:To obtain a packing agent for liquid chromatography capable of separating an inorg. strong acid ion from oxalic acid and other org. acids by using an H<+> ion and a transition metal ion as the counter ion of the sulfo group of a cation exchange resin in combination. CONSTITUTION:A strong acid such as hydrochroric acid and a compound such as ferric chloride containing a transition metal ion are appropriately mixed to be dissolved in water and the resulting aqueous solution is mixed with porous sulfonated styrene/divinylbenzene copolymer particles to form a cation exchange resin whose counter ion is partially exchanged with a trivalent iron ion. By liquid chromatography using this resin, an inorg. strong acid ion can be separated from oxalic acid and can be further separated from other org. acids.
