PURPOSE:To prevent a characteristic of a cell from being deteriorated due to moisture absorption of a phosphatic electrolyte at the time of starting of a phosphoric acid type fuel cell. CONSTITUTION:A temperature is increased to a value suitable for cell reaction while inactive gas purging is being applied to a cell main body. The temperature is kept for a predetermined time, i.e., a time enough to evaporate and dissipate water absorbed by a phosphatic electrolyte. A concentration and volume of phosphor included in the electrolyte is returned to the initial values. Consequently, the phosphatic electrolyte can be prevented from overflowing to a base gas passage. |
