Fungicidal compsn. contains N.substd. aryloxy- or arylthio-aliphatic amides of formula (I) plus usual auxiliaries and/or carriers. (I) can be in the form of racemate or mixt. of optical isomers, or as pure enantiomers or diastereomers. Ar = phenyl (opt. substd. by 1-3 1-5C alkyl, alkoxy, alkylthio, alkylsulphinyl or alkylsulphonyl, halo, NO2, CF3, CN, Me MeOCH2, Me2NCH2, COO alkyl, CONH2 or phenyl); 1- or 2-naphthyl; opt. chloro-substd. 2-,3- or 4-pyridyl; pyrimidyl or quinolinyl; Q = -CR5R6(CH2)m; m = 0-2; R1 = H, 1-5C alkyl or allyl; R2 and R3 = H, 1-6C alkyl (opt. interrupted by 0 or 5), 3-5C cycloalkyl, 1-5C alkoxycarbonylmethyl, phenyl or together complete (CH2)4; (CH2)5 or -CHMe(CH2)4; R4 = CN or CONH2; R5 = H, Me or Et; R6 = H or Me; X = 0 or 5. (I) are new cpds. where Ar-X is not 4-chloro-2-methylphenoxy when Q = CHMe and CR2R3R4 = CH2CN; (2) Ar-X-Q- is not 2,3-dichlorophenoxymethyl when R1 = H or 1-4C alkyl; R2 = H, Me or Et; R3 = H, Me, Et, Ph, PhCH2 or R2 and R3 are together (CH2)4 or (CH2)5 and R4 = CN; (3) Ar-X-Q- is not A'r-OCH(Me)- or if CR2R3R4 = C(Me)2CN; Ar' = 2,4,5- or 3,4,5-trichlorophenyl; Ra = Me or Et; (4) -X-Q-CONR1-CR2R3R4 is not -OCH2-CONH-CH2CN when Ar = 2-methyl- 4-chloro- or 2-aminocarbonyl-phenyl.
