A fast response, tubeless vacuum aspiration collection cassette includes large and small containers (30, 31) defined within a cassette housing adapted to be removably secured to a surgical aspiration machine. A first wall of the cassette housing abutting the machine includes connectors (58 and 68, 71) thereto to provide a controlled variable vacuum level to the small container (30), and a fixed vacuum level to the large container (31). The channels (47, 57, 42, 44 and 42, 61, 66) and valves (43, 46 and 62) are arranged so that when the containers (30, 31) are isolated by a first valve (62), the controlled vacuum level may be applied to the surgical probe through a second valve (43, 46) connecting it to the small container volume (30). Whenever the controlled vacuum is shut off to the probe by the second valve (43, 46) the first valve (62) is opened to permit the fixed vacuum in the larger container (31) to be applied to the smaller container (30) to transfer aspirant fluid therein to the larger container (31). |
