PYROLYZING METHOD FOR DISCARDED MATERIAL

Pyrolysis of waste materials contg. PVC and/or F-contg. polymers is carried out in a rotary furnace at 300-600 deg.C, with the improvement that finely divided basic materials (I) are added before and/or during pyrolysis. (I) can be limestone, quicklime, slaked lime and/or dolomite, pref. witb a particle size smaller tban 1 mm. Pyrolysis is pref. effected at 500-600 deg.C with a residence time of 30-60 mins. in the presence of a super-stoichiometric amt. of (I) w.r.t. hydrogen halides. (I) absorbs acid gases (esp. HCl and/or HF) and thus reduces gas and waste-water treatment costs and allows equipment made of less expensive materials to be used.
