Process for immobilising and/or purifying fusion proteins of bio-technological usefulness in a single step. The process is based on the use of the property of the terminal carboxyl groups and the pneumococcus LYTA lytic amidase and bean CP-I CPLI muramidase present in Streptococcus pneumoniae to combine specifically with choline or substrates analogous to choline such as diethylaminoethanol (DEAE). A series of plasma vectors have been developed which enable hybrid proteins to be produced through fusion of the DNA fragments of interest and their immobilisation and purification in a single step using affinity chromatography. <IMAGE>
