A method and device for decoding an FFSK-coded signal are presented. Herein, use is made of the fact that, in coding of this type, the number of half periods of the frequency used to code a logical "1" in one bit period is even, whereas the number of half periods of the frequency used to code a logical "0" in one bit period is odd. Therefore, the phase of the FFSK-coded signal is compared at the end of each bit period with the phase of the FFSK coded signal at the end of the immediately preceding bit period. If the two phases are identical, a logical "1" is involved; if the two phases are different, a logical "0" is involved. An improvement in the signal-to-noise ratio of around 1.5 dB is achieved with the aforementioned method. <IMAGE>
