A contact assembly for an electrical connector includes a rear contact and a transient suppression or filter component mounted on the rear contact in axial alignment therewith. A ground connection between the component and the shell of the connector is established by a ground contact extending from a ground plate. The ground contact engages the component as the contact is pushed into the connector. A retention member in the connector is arranged to the rear contact in the connector. A front contact is mounted on the other side of the ground plate from the rear contact and includes a resilient member extending from front contact to engage the rear contact when the rear contact is inserted into the connector, thereby establishing an electrical connection between the front and rear contacts.
