The invention relates to a formed piece which consists of a continuous matrix which comprises A) inorganic solid silicon dioxide powder particles whose size is 50 A - 0.5 μm, and B) solid particles whose size is 0.5 - 100 μm and which are at least an order of size larger than the particles mentioned under A), with the proviso that at least 20% by weight of the B particles are Portland cement, with the A particles being present in a quantity which amounts to 10 - 30% by volume of the volume of the A and B particles, a concrete superplasticising agent and, where appropriate, C) inert filler or reinforcing materials which differ from the B particles and have at least one dimension which is at least an order of size larger than the A particles, with the B particles being tightly packed, the A particles being homogeneously distributed in the space between the B particles, and the concrete superplasticising agent being used in a quantity which is sufficient for ensuring that the A particles are homogeneously distributed, which quantity corresponds to 1-4% by weight of concrete superplasticising agent dry matter, calculated on the weight of the A + B particles, and the formed piece being produced using water in a ratio by weight between water and A + B particles of 0.12 - 0.30. The invention furthermore relates to a composite material for producing such a formed piece and to a process for producing such a formed piece.
