PURPOSE:To obtain a novel ferromagnetic multilayer film with a film layer not containing Fe, Ni and Co but having at least one of Mn and Cr and also to obtain a novel photomagnetic recording medium with a magnetic multilayer film wherein the thin film of such a kind is allowed to hold a large kerr rotation angle and an axis of easy magnetization perpendicular to the film surface. CONSTITUTION:A plurality of first film layers 2 having composition elements of manganese and/or chrome and a plurality of second film layers 3 having composition elements of at least one of lithium, beryllium, silicon, carbon, sodium and magnesium are alternately laminated on a substrate 1 to obtain a magnetic multilayer film. Further aluminum and silicon are contained in the composition elements of the second film layer while independent films are formed on a non-magnetic substrate so that no mutual diffusion layer is generated at interfaces of the respective film layers to obtain a photomagnetic recording medium. |
