A water seal device is disclosed for closing a bath containing a corrosive product (4) such as an acid. Said bath is closed by a cover (2) having an edge lid (21) capable of engaging, when closed, in a channel (3) of U cross section in the upper edge of the sidewall (1). According to the invention, the channel (3) consists of solid shaped sections (5) formed from natural rock of eruptive origin such as lava, and placed in line on the upper edge of the sidewall. The device may be used specifically in chemical pickling installations for metal sheet.
