A syringe is produced fitted with a device which prevents anyone from being able to prick himself with the sharp end of the needle of this syringe. This device essentially comprises a cover previously engaged on the body of the syringe. As soon as an injection has been completed, the cover can be moved along the body towards the needle. When arriving at the end-stop, this cover completely masks the needle: it is no longer possible to prick oneself. In preference, the sliding is of the irreversible type. In this case, it is no longer possible to withdraw the cover and the syringe is then of the single-use type. In addition, the body of the syringe and the plunger are fitted with an elastic mechanism which blocks the return of the plunger once the latter has been driven in a first time: the syringe is locked and is no longer reusable even if the cover is not moved forward. <IMAGE>
