Fire extinguishing and explosion suppressing substances are described using water together with an additive in solution. In one example, a substantially saturated solution of sodium bicarbonate in water is used. Solutions of other alkali metal bicarbonates may be used instead. In another example, a substantially saturated solution of ammonium dihydrogen phosphate in water is used. Tests have shown that the solutions provide very much more effective suppressing action than water alone. |
