Spinning station sliver insertion

To insert a sliver into a spinner, esp. an open-end spinning appts., with a feed unit and insertion funnel and injector, the feed is opened and the sliver is gripped pneumatically by the injector to be moved through the insertion funnel by air passing through passage openings aligned towards the entry of the funnel. The sliver moves through the insertion funnel into the feed mechanism, which is then closed. For sliver insertion, the injector is pref. brought to the spinner and, after insertion, is retracted. Before insertion, the leading end of the sliver is twisted into a point by an eddy airstream from a compressed air jet. The onwards movement of the sliver is mechanically assisted during insertion. The sliver moves at a given speed at the feed funnel, and the sliver speed through the feed system is less than the speed of the sliver through the air streams alone, to give a drawing action to the sliver.
