N-azinyl-N'-(2-alkyl-sulphinyl-phenylsulphonyl) urea derivs. - used as powerful herbicides effective against e.g. Sinapis and Echinochloa

(A) N-azinyl-N'-(2-alkylsulphinyl-phenyl sulphonyl) urea derivs. of formula (I) and their salts are new. A = N or CH; R1 = Me or Et; R2 = H, halogen, alkyl, alkoxy, alkylthio or alkylamino (each contg. 1-3C and each opt. halo-substd.); R3 = alkyl or alkoxy (each contg. 1-3C and each opt. halo-substd.). (B) Intermediate 2-alkylsulphinyl phenylsulphonyl isocyanate derivs. of formula (II) and 2-alkyl sulphinyl benzene sulphonic acid amide derivs. of formula (III) are also new. USE/ADVANTAGE - (I) are herbicides which are considerably more effective than the known cpd. N-(4,6-dimethoxy-s-triazin-2-yl)-N'-(2-propyl thiophenylsulphonyl)-urea. (I) can be used as total or selective herbicides and are effective against dicotyledons such as Sinapis and Cheropodium and against monocotyledons such as Echinochloa and Digitaria in dicotyledon crops such as Gossypium and Brassica and monocotyledon crops such as Triticum and Saccharum. Suitable amts. for use are 10g-10kg (esp. 50g-5kg). (II) and (III) are intermediates in the prepn. of (I).
