Ground target detector for aircraft - has sensor on lift-generating body dragged by strong, flexible cable behind aircraft

The target detector uses sensors operating in different spectral ranges to detect ground targets. A sensor (10) is arranged on a lift-generating body (11) connected to an aircraft by a high-strength flexible cable (12). The body is formed as a stream-lined platform with height and stabilising control devices, or with fixed surfaces or lift and natural dynamic longitudinal stability, giving a sinusoidal movement when dragged behind the aircraft. The body may be stored in the aircraft before being ejected and inflated to its final form. The cable is pref. an optical cable for transmission of sensor signals to the aircraft. ADVANTAGE - Aircraft need not leave low-flying zone to detect ground targets.
