摘要 A metal-based composite material (I) has a coating of plastic, vitreous-crystalline material or cement (II). The metal has surface roughness 5-10 microns and contains particles of vitreous, vitreous-ceramic and/or ceramic material (III) with Moh hardness 5-7 deg.C, homogeneously dispersed in a surface layer at least 1 micron thick. More specifically, (I) is a noble metal-based implant, and (III) is a spontaneously crystallised or annealed glass ceramic of the CaO-P2O5-SiO2 system, pref. a bioactive material with primary crystal phases of the apatite, wollastonite or Ca7Mg2P6O24 type and secondary phases of the cristobalite, disposite or forsterite type, and with particle size 0.05-400 (pref. 50-250) microns; a layer of coupling agent in the form of spots or a complete layer is placed between (II) and (III); (II) is biocompatible polyacrylate, polyepoxide or polyurethane, fired or plasma-coated ceramic, or ZnO/phosphate or silicate cement, pref. with Moh hardness 5-6.5 deg; also claimed is a metal implant as above, a tribochemical process for sand-blasting a metal surface with (III), pref. a biocompatible, esp. pref. bioactive glass ceramic with crystal phases as above. USE/ADVANTAGE - Surface treatment of the metal gives improved adhesion with coating (II), thus preventing sepn. of the implant. The process does not entail elevated temps. or additional equipment costs, and can be applied to noble or base metal substrates.
