<p>In a method and system for creating a vertical seismic profile (VSP), the spacing interval (6) between units (20) either seismic sources or receivers, in a borehole (4) increases exponentially as their distance (8) from the surface (32) increases, and the spacing interval between units (30), either seismic sources or receivers, along the surface of the earth (32) decreases exponentially as their distance (20) from the surface intercept (12) of the wellbore increases.
