PURPOSE:To simply produce an itaconic acid 4-monoester in a high yield by esterifying itaconic anhydride in the presence of a specific enzyme. CONSTITUTION:1-Mole of itaconic anhydride and the same mole or a slightly excessive mole (1.5-3.5 moles) of an alcohol are dissolved in a reaction solvent such as n-hexane, allowed to pass through a column having an enzyme such as lipase or esterase immobilized therein at 15-60 deg.C for esterifying the itaconic acid to produce the objective monoester of the formula. |
