PURPOSE:To provide an artificial marble having good mechanical strength and impact resistance. CONSTITUTION:An artificial marble is characterized by containing a resin consisting mainly of vinyl chloride as a matrix and a filler in an amount of 50-90wt.% based on the mixture of the resin matrix and the filler, and further by being reinforced with glass fibers in an amount of 1-20wt.% based on the artificial marble. A method for producing the artificial marble is characterized by charging the mixture of the filler with a composition of the resin consisting mainly of the vinyl chloride in an amount of approximately 1/2 of the mixture in a mold, laying glass fibers thereon, further charging the remaining part of the mixture on the glass fibers and subsequently compression-molding. |
