PURPOSE:To eliminate the possibilities of generating blank print and maintain high printing efficiency even when data is printed on a large-sized sheet by detecting a residual ink amount frequently in the equal speed motion area of a carriage. CONSTITUTION:A residual ink amount in an ink tank 10 is detected each time a carriage 8 moves in one direction and during the movement of the carriage 7 at an equal speed. A cloee area inside B and C which are residual ink amount detection positions, that is, a printing completion position can be determined by detecting said area with the counting of the number of printing pulses. If the carriage 7 arrives at this position, a bias current is run for a short time to the base of a transistor at that time, and in turn, an electric current is run to the ink of the ink tank 10 through a partial voltage resistor. Subsequently, an output from a comparator changes over depending on the residual ink amount of the ink tank 10. If the output changes over, a printer control circuit stops the operation of a printer temporarily. |
