PURPOSE: To obtain a biologically active peptide composition by extraction from urine so as to contain as a common ingredient a new 3-[N- phenylacetylaminopiperidine]-2,6-dione and be useful for treating human neoplastic diseases. CONSTITUTION: This composition, which is extracted from urine, contains as a common ingredient 3-[N-phenylacetylaminopiperidine]-2,6-dione of the formula or pharmaceutically permissible salt thereof, having anti-neoplastic activity and being useful for treating human cancer. The composition also contains two or more kinds of biologically active small-sized low-molecular weight peptides exhibiting cell growth inhibitory activity and cytotoxic activity against neoplastic cell cultured products and human neoplastic diseases. The above- mentioned compound of the formula can be synthesized by reaction of L- glutamic acid with a phenylacetyl halide, pref. phenylacetly chloride, pref. in a weakly alkaline aqueous solution containing sodium bicarbonate.
